PSL Mourns Tendai Ndoro

Published

on

The Premier Soccer League has joined the football fraternity in mourning the passing of former Warriors and Orlando Pirates striker, Tendai Ndoro, who has died at the age of 40.

Reports indicate that Ndoro was found dead in his apartment in South Africa. News of his passing was first shared by Belgian-based former Zimbabwe international Cephas Chimedza, who posted a picture of Ndoro in Warriors colours with the caption: “Fire R.I.P Chief Striker.”

Nicknamed Fire, Ndoro burst onto the scene in the 2013 Cosafa Cup, where his performances for the Warriors and Chicken Inn earned him a move to Mpumalanga Black Aces in South Africa. His prolific scoring form quickly made him a fan favourite and paved the way for a big move to Orlando Pirates.

From there, he went on to play for Al-Faisaly in Saudi Arabia, Ajax Cape Town, Highlands Park, and later Al-Orouba in Oman, enjoying a career that took him across Africa and the Middle East.

However, concerns about his health emerged in 2021 when images circulated on social media showing Ndoro looking frail, with reports suggesting he had even lost his eyesight.

Despite the struggles in his later years, Ndoro’s contribution to Zimbabwean football remains indelible. The PSL said in its tribute that his spirit will “forever remain part of Zimbabwean football history.”

He will be remembered as one of the most talented forwards of his generation, a player who brought joy to fans and lifted the Warriors’ attack with his skill and goals.

May his soul rest in peace.

HARARE – Zimbabwe’s campaign in the Group A stage of the TotalEnergies CAF Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations | COSAFA Qualifiers at Ngoni Mwos Stadium in Harare, Zimbabwe on Thursday got off to a rocky start as they suffered a narrow 0-1 defeat to Mozambique. Despite a spirited performance and several promising chances, the Warriors were unable to find the back of the net.

The match began with Zimbabwe showing early intent. In the 4th minute, Tadiwa Chakuchichi came close to opening the scoring, but his shot narrowly missed the target. Just minutes later, a defensive lapse in Zimbabwe’s box allowed Mozambique to capitalize and take the lead in the 8th minute.

Chakuchichi remained a constant threat, earning a free kick in the 11th minute after being brought down during an attacking run. Zimbabwe continued to press, with Jameson Nduna attempting a long-range effort in the 24th minute and Chakuchichi again coming close in the 34th. However, the finishing touch eluded them.

A foul on Darrel Zulu in the 36th minute gave Zimbabwe another chance from a set piece, but Nduna’s effort failed to trouble the keeper. The first half ended with Zimbabwe trailing 0-1, despite dominating possession and creating more chances.

Coach adjustments came swiftly in the second half, with Fortune Ncube replacing James Mautsa at the restart. Further substitutions followed, including Irvine Mtungwazi for Nduna and a double switch in the 75th minute bringing on Tapiwa Gutu and Dywane Musona.

As the clock ticked down, Zimbabwe intensified their efforts. Darrel Zulu fired a powerful shot in the 88th minute that skimmed just wide, epitomizing the team’s frustration in front of goal. Mozambique, meanwhile, slowed the tempo, with four of their players down in the 86th minute, disrupting Zimbabwe’s rhythm.

Seven minutes of added time offered a glimmer of hope, but the final whistle confirmed Zimbabwe’s defeat. Despite their dominance in midfield and attacking intent, the Young Warriors were unable to overturn the early setback.

Zimbabwe now turn their attention to their next Group A fixture against Eswatini, scheduled for Saturday at Ngoni MWOS Stadium with kickoff at 15:00hrs. With lessons learned and renewed determination, the team will be eager to bounce back and keep their tournament hopes alive.

JOHANNESBURG — The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has issued a formal statement following an unsettling incident involving Warriors forward Tinotenda Kadewere and prominent sports journalist Yvonne Mangunda during an open media training session at Orlando Stadium.

By Tongai Mwenje

The altercation reportedly stemmed from Kadewere’s frustration over recent criticism surrounding his form, which has sparked debate among fans and pundits alike. Many have questioned his inclusion in the national squad, arguing that his performances have dipped and that younger talent should be given a chance. During the session, Kadewere allegedly confronted Mangunda, accusing her of speaking negatively about him and, according to eyewitnesses, appeared ready to physically assault her before being restrained.

In response, ZIFA released a statement on September 9, 2025, expressing deep regret over the incident and making its stance clear:

“ZIFA strongly condemns any form of abuse towards the media. Journalists are a vital part of the game, and we are committed to ensuring they carry out their duties without fear or intimidation.”

The statement confirmed that Kadewere has since apologised to Ms. Mangunda and that an amicable understanding has been reached between the two parties. However, disciplinary procedures are underway, with both team management and the Association involved in addressing the matter.

“We take full responsibility for upholding the highest standards of conduct within our teams and reaffirm our commitment to respectful engagement with all stakeholders,” ZIFA added.

The incident has sparked wider conversations about player accountability and the role of media in shaping public perception. While Kadewere remains a key figure in the Warriors setup, the episode underscores the need for professionalism and mutual respect between athletes and journalists.

As the Warriors prepare to host Rwanda this afternoon, they will be hoping to secure their first win as they remain winless and in sixth place.
