CAF Gives Green Light for NSS to Host International Matches

International football is making its way back to Zimbabwe after CAF granted conditional approval for the National Sports Stadium (NSS) in Harare to host matches.

The stadium has been undergoing renovations for several years, following CAF’s 2020 decision to ban all local venues from international use. The latest clearance allows the NSS to stage Category 2 fixtures, including preliminary rounds of the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, as well as youth Afcon qualifiers (U23, U20, and U17).

Simba Bhora will be the first to benefit from this development, with their CAF Confederation Cup tie against Nsingizi Hotspurs set for September at the Harare venue. However, the approval does not yet extend to senior national team matches.

The Warriors and Mighty Warriors will still have to play their home games elsewhere, with Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg lined up for Zimbabwe’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. CAF says further upgrades are needed before the NSS can host top-tier internationals.

The Emirates FA Cup fifth round draw has been made for the 2025-26 season, with the eight ties to be scheduled for the weekend of 7-8 March 2026.

Taking place ahead of Monday evening’s tie between Macclesfield and Brentford, the draw was made by Joe Cole and Karen Carney as clubs look to seal a place in the quarter-final.

Winning clubs in the fifth round will receive £238,500 from the competition prize fund for the 2025-26 season.

The final schedule for the fifth round will be confirmed in due course, following talks with clubs, broadcast partners and local authorities.
