Norman Mapeza’s FC Platinum emerged 2-1 victors over Ngezi in a Premier League encounter played at the Baobab stadium on Saturday.
In a match which was to decide who tops the league table, both sides went into the match with 38 points apiece and a nine point cushion over the nearest team, third placed Highlanders FC.
And it is Ngezi, who started the brighter of the two sides as they looked to take full advantage of their home ground advantage, threatening FC Platinum’s goal with some neat attacking play that has won the hearts of many neutrals this season.
However, it would be in the 42nd minute where the first goal would come for the home side courtesy of Teguru.
Tonderai Ndiraya’s men held on to the lead going into the break, however, the away side had other ideas in the second half.
Whatever Mapeza may have said to his boys at half time seemed to do the trick with the visitors coming back a refreshed side and they delivered the goods.
The visitors went on a comeback trail, scoring once to even the score line and again to take the lead for the first time in the match.
The home-side huffed and puffed as they looked for a way to get back into the game but it was to no avail with Mapeza’s charges holding on to seal all three points for the visitors.
The win sees FC Platinum move to the top of the Premier League table, three points ahead of Ngezi Platinum.
