KickOff.com has confirmed that Maritzburg United forward Luyanda Ntshangase was on Thursday struck by lightning during a training match.
The Team of Choice were playing against an unspecified amateur side earlier today when the lightning strike happened, with Ntshangase rushed to hospital for further observation to assess his situation.
The 21-year-old, who was promoted last season along with Bandile Shandu and Siphesihle Ndlovu, has only featured in two league matches for the club this season and six times as substituted.
“Luyanda Ntshangase was struck by lightning today as Maritzburg United played a friendly match and some players of the opposition team were also affected,” a source tells KickOff.com.
“He has been taken to hospital for further observation.”
One club official, who wanted to remain unnamed, also confirmed the news to this Kickoff, saying: “The club played a friendly match today and Ntshangase was struck by lightning and has been taken to the medi-clinic in Pietermaritzburg and only his parents are allowed to see him.
Ntshangase, who also played twice for the club last season, is tipped to be one of United’s stars for the coming seasons but faces competitions up front to Andrea Fileccia and Mohau Mokate.
