Peterhouse Crowned Rowing Champs

The duo of Kenneth Rayner and brendon Eggersglusz of Peterhouse were over the moon after clinching the title at the Inaugural Prince Edward 3 feathers rowing regatta held at Zimbabwe centre at Mazowe Dam, over the weekend .

A total of 319 entries were recorded  for the regatta , Rowers  ranging from as young as eight years to fifty  and these were drawn from Arundel ,Chisipite,st Georges  and Peterhouse schools respectively.

Rowing Association of Zimbabwe (RAZ) president Andrew Lorimer expressed satisfaction over the rower’s performance .

“I am really excited for having hosted such a competitive  event ,and the competition was stiff in all the rowing divisions ,this was so in the men’s  and women’s A divisions races rowed over the Olympic distance of 2000 metres ,”

“In Men’s A single scull race Kenneth Raynor of Peterhouse  narrowly beat Darragh van Aswegan of Hunyani rowing Club in hotly contended race of eight rowers .”

Lorimer said there was an even closer tussle for the finish line in the men’s A double sculls race were Kenneth Rayner and Brandon  Eggersglusz of Peterhouse inched over the finish line just in front of the second of the second placed boat of Darragh van Aswegan an Stuart Duncan of Hunyani .

Meanwhile in the men’s A quadruple sculls race the Peterhouse boat of Raynor,Cox ,Eggerslusz and Rogers (coxed by Chivera )rowed smoothly and powerfully through choppy waters to beat the St George’s College boat crewed by Maonga ,Chidawanyika,Heally and Temple(coxed  by Todlana).

14 entries were recorded in in women’s A single sculls event ,this had to be raced in two heats ,with Lorryn Bass and Hinde of Chipite just putting in the fastesttime to beat Ciara Soper of Hunyani .Bass and Hinde of Chisipite put in a strong finish or a good win over Edwards and Evans of Peterhouse in the women’s A double  scull eventwhich had strong field of 7 boats  competeiting in this event.

Chisipite crew of Hinde ,Bass,Duarte Simos  jnr) beat the Arundel crew of Madziva Ngwenya Hendrickse and Mudala Tadi.

Jonh Satombo ,of Prince Edward school who sponsored the event said he was pleased the success of the regatta.

“The high quality of the acing and the large number of competitors and spectators who turned out for the event.”

“The regatta acted as a warm up for the Zimbabwe national Rowing regatta scheduled for Mazowe on February 11th.
