Gweru-based Premier League side Chapungu FC has been rocked by the untimely death of their first choice goalkeeper, Roy Madzingi.
Madzingi is said to have died after a short illness, although there were some unconfirmed reports that he had died during military training.
Chapungu FC’s public relations manager, Tawanda Zowa, confirmed the news of the Chapungu goalkeeper’s death.
“It is with great sorrow that we as Chapungu FC is announcing the death of our first choice goalkeeper Roy Mazingi. Roy passed away last night (10/01/18), in Harare, after a short illness. Mourners are gathered at 537 Mbizo 3 Kwekwe. Burial will be in Kwekwe on Saturday 13/01/18. Burial times will be notified in due course,” said Zowa.
Zowa was, however, quick to refute the claims that Mazingi had died during military training, adding that the reports were nothing more than lies.
“It’s all lies, we are still waiting for post-mortem but he (Mazingi) definitely did not die during military training.”
Madzingi was an integral part of Chapungu FC in the 2016-17 PSL season, helping the Gweru-based side to a respectable 11th place finish last year.
