The girls category had only one group, Group D, which consisted of two Kwazulu Natal based teams, that is Kwazulu Natal 1 and Kwazulu Natal. Zimbabwe will face Kwazulu Natal 1 in a match final to be played on Sunday at 1430hrs at the Durban Amphitheater in Beachfront city.
The Zimbabwe girls team booked its final ticket following back to back wins against Kwazulu Natal Provincial team 2. The first game saw the Yeukai Chiruvu coached side beating the South African team by 4 goal to three before a convincing 5 goals drubbing of the same team.
Although they booked a place in the final, the other two games against Kwazulu Natal Provincial team 1 did not yield positive results. The girls from Zimbabwe were beaten 6 goals to 4 before a humiliating defeat of 10 goals to 3.
However, the result did not matter much since they had already booked a placed in the final. Vainona High School starlet, Praynence Zwawanda was outstanding while captain and tough defender Atida Nyagudza of Chidyamakono did very well to secure a place in the final stage of the tournament.
While the girls team did well it was not the same with the Zimbabwe under 15 boys football team. The first game saw the boys succumbing to a 8:3 defeat at the hands of South Africa team 1. They went on to lose to Russia team 2 by 11 goals to 6. To conclude their fixtures, the boys team will play a friendly match against COPA COCA-COLA invitational side at 1200hrs on Sunday.
The tournament which started on the 6th of October is aimed at uniting teens through football despite different languages, religion, race and cultures. It remains a strong proof point for the beauty and power of the COPA Coca-Cola programme.
Nine teams participated in the boys category and that includes countries like the hosts South Africa, Nigeria, Russia, Tunisia, Zimbabwe as well as two additional teams comprising of a selection of young footballers from Rwanda, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Congo and DRC.
The boys were drawn into 3 groups. Zimbabwe boys under 15 football team was drawn in group A together with Russia 2 and South Africa 1. Group B had South Africa 2, East Africa and Russia 1 while Nigeria, Tunisia and WIMA formed the last group.
