More Barcelona Legends for Zim match revealed

Visiting Spanish footballer Rayco Garcia has unmasked more names of Barcelona Legends set to play the Warriors in November.

At the moment, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Edmilson, Mendieta, Edgar Davids and Patrick Kluivert Rivaldo were known to be part of the team coming to Zimbabwe. Excitement grips Barcelona fans in Zimbabwe who in their heads are imagining players composed in the Barcelona Legends squad.

But Sportbrief today learnt more names of the former Barcelona FC players set to visit the country.

“Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Patrick Kluivert , Edgars Davids,  Gaiska Mendieta, Seidu Keita, Eidur Gudjohnsen
many more will be here. All have confirmed but we will say in the middle of the month we will say more,” Rayco told Sportbrief.

Legends Soccer Academy young players received words of wisdom from Brazilian soccer legend Rivaldo who told them to work hard and party less.

Soccer players are well known for being ‘party animals’ but Rivaldo excluded himself from that bunch.

“I have never drank beer neither did I party at clubs. So do not do those stuff as they might affect you.
“Don’t forget to work hard and pray to God,” he said.

The young soccer players autographed a jersey for Rivaldo which he humbly accepted.

“I want to thank you for this jersey with your signatures. I might have received autographed jerseys from Lionel Messi and other soccer stars but I will treasure this one the most as it came from you kids,” said Rivaldo.

Minister of Sport and Recreation Makhosini Hlongwane told journalists the match between Barcelona legends and the national team will boost Zimbabwe’s sport tourism.

“On the same note, the series of sport diplomacy exchange which will ensure the hosting of the anticipated November grand match between the Warriors and Team Barcelona will go a long way in promoting not only sport tourism but will help in marketing the cultural wealth, peace and tranquility that Zimbabwe has,” he said.

Legends Soccer Academy proprietor Farai Dhliwayo said it was a thrilling and motivating experience for the kids to meet Rivaldo.

“At Legends soccer academy we try very hard to ensure that our players improve through training. When they get to see an icon like Rivaldo someone who ‘s made it in the game it makes their dreams seem more realistic that its actually possible to make it out there.

“Hopefully through exposure they get from things like this it brings attention to people outside Zimbabwe that there is quality and quality players inside Zimbabwe,” he said.

Rivaldo during the press conference said he might come with his family in Zimbabwe.
He also paid a courtesy call to Zimbabwe’s Acting President Phelekezela Mphoko at his Munhumutapa offices.
