According to reports, the victim was in the company of one unidentified lady when the mishap occurred along Charter Road in the capital yesterday.

It is reported that the victim picked a telephone call when two robbers pounced on unsuspecting Makona and his female company. The culprits grabbed the duo’s mobile phones before taking off in high speed on foot.

Makona is said to have followed the criminals in hot pursuit and managed to get rid of one of the suspected robbers.

A fist fight resulted in Makona being stabbed with a sharp object in the chest.

The robbers reportedly dropped the phones which where later picked by an unidentified friend who helped Makona to the hospital.

One popular CAPS United fan only identified as Mpostori told Sportbrief that Makona is currently seeking medical attention.

“Washy (Makona) is currently at Parirenyatwa where he underwent a surgery after the medical personnel said the sharp object that stabbed him penetrated to the heart. He is however being monitored at the medical institution,”he said.

Makona was coming from Mhondoro where his team of choice won 0-1 courtesy of a Moses Muchenje penalty in the 26th minute to boot out Ngezi Platinum Stars.
