Warriors defender Eric Chipeta who left Ajax Cape Town recently will have to quickly find a new club if he is to be guaranteed a slot in the National team set up in future.
BY SPORTBRIEF REPORTER
Chipeta parted ways with the Cape Town based sided on mutual consent with the player citing lake of game time at Ajax as the push factor. He is currently a free agent.
Calvin Nyazema, the player;s manager, confirmed the development.
“He is now a free agent and looking for a new club. The hope is that he will find a club in South Africa before we can start to look elsewhere. Basically, the player wanted to play, something that he could not be guaranteed and he was not prepared to play cameo roles at the team. So they separated by mutual consent,” he said.
Chipeta joined Ajax in April 2016 from Chippa United where he was guaranteed game time.
The development leaves Chipeta in danger of losing his place in the Warriors set-up.
Chipeta featured for the Warriors in both the AFCON qualifiers and in Cosafa Castle Cup won by Zimbabwe in South Africa.
With his ability to play right back or central defence, he has proved to be a key player for Zimbabwe.
“The good thing is that there is still time before the national team can play again. I’m sure by that time, he will be settled. It will however be difficult to find a club in South Africa as most of them had utilised their slots for foreigners. This is something that happened right on deadline.
“On deadline a lot of things will be happening behind doors and you would expect some unforeseen things like this to happen. But there is really no big problem. Erick is a good player and he will find a club and move on,” said Nyazema.
