Huge blow for WARRIORS

THE Warriors have been dealt a huge blow ahead of their decisive African Nations Championship (Chan) qualifier against the Brave Warriors of Namibia at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday, with several key players ruled out for varying reasons.

Warriors CHAN Team captain, Ocean Mushure is currently battling an injury sustained in the last match away to Namibia and did not take part in training yesterday.

Talent Chawapiwa, one of the stars of the Cosafa tournament which ended few days ago in South Africa, has sealed a move to ABSA premiership side, Baroka FC, and will not play a part on Sunday as he is wanted by his new employers by Saturday.

Dynamos midfielder Denver Mukamba has not reported for training since the Warriors regrouped on Tuesday. Another midfielder Gerald Takwara is also injured and unavailable for selection.

He too did not attend training on Thursday. Team manager Wellington Mupandare told Sportbrief that their chances of recovering to be considered for the match were next to zero.

“Their chances of playing on Sunday are very slim. As for Chawapiwa his club has asked him to report and join his team mates for preseason training. Denver has not reported for training since Tuesday and we are not aware of his whereabouts. Its a difficult situation and the coaches will have to work with those at their disposal,” said Mupandare.

The Warriors lost 1-0 in the first leg in Windhoek and need nothing but a convincing victory to book a place to the final qualifying round where they will face off either Comoros or Lesotho in a battle for the right to play at the finals to be held in Kenya next year.

Zimbabwe has qualified for this tournament on all occasions since it was inaugurated in 2008.
