Manchester United look to have pulled what could very well be the deal of the summer if reports coming from Goodison Park are anything to go by. Sky sources have confirmed that the Red Devils have had a bid of £75m accepted for Romelu Lukaku with the striker set to have a medical at Old Trafford in a few days to come.
This news will no doubt come as a shocker to Chelsea fans, with the Belgium international having been linked with a move back to the West London club for much of this summer but it appears the 24-year-old will instead become a high-profile Jose Mourinho signing.
Mourinho had been on the hunt for a replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic with talks having been held with Real Madrid over a possible deal for Alvaro Morata.
However, this recent development now means that United have effectively ended their pursuit of the Spanish striker having been frustrated by the La Liga club’s asking price.
Lukaku, who scored 25 Premier League goals last season, is expected to have a medical later this week with the hope that he can join United for their tour of the United States next week as Mourinho’s men return to training on Saturday before flying off to Los Angeles on Sunday.
However, the Lukaku deal is not in any way linked to one which could see Wayne Rooney head in the opposite direction, moving back to Goodison Park and re-joining a club he left back in 2004 as a teenager.
Negotiations are continuing between the clubs and Rooney’s representatives over his return to Merseyside.
