The Botswana referee, Joshua Bondo was at the centre of controversy when he The Warriors were denied a clear penalty when Ovidy Karuru connected to a loose ball in the box and came face-to-face with the goalkeeper and as the Zimbabwe captain tried to negotiate past Jean Randrianasolo, the Madagascar goalkeeper infringed on him leaving the Zimbabwean at the mercy of the turf as Bondo waved play on.

The Zimbabwe football regulator vice president, Omega Sibanda said the association will protest against such ill refereeing behaviour aimed at deciding match results.

“That was just unacceptable and as an Association we will protest against such questionable ways of deciding matches because the referee should offer both chances a fair opportunity to try and win the game and this referee appeared to have an agenda against us,’’ said Sibanda.

The questionable officiating which failed to give a level field of play and worked against the Warriors was further worsened by the presence of Olivio Saimone who assumed duties as the second assistant referee.

Saimone is a Mozambican national and his home country is in the same group with Zimbabwe together with Madagascar and Seychelles.

The match ended in a nil all draw.
