CAPS United Coach Not Worried About Team’s Poor Uhuru Performance

After a poor show that saw Makepekepe losing their bragging rights of the Harare Derby to cross town rivals Dynamos in the Uhuru semi final Cup before losing with an identical 1-0 to FC Platinum, Chitembwe has defended his lads saying their main focus is in the CAF and PSL.

In a media briefing meeting held at the club offices on Thursday afternoon, Makepekepe head coach Lloyd Chitembwe said they now shift focus to the premier soccer league match day 3 when then host Tsholotsho FC on Sunday. United is currently experiencing a goal drought that has seen the Harare giants scoring only two goals in the last 5 games against TP Mazembe, Shabanie Mine, Harare City, Dynamos and FC Platinum.

United won 2-1 against Harare City FC on PSL match day 2.

“The ZNA and the Uhuru games were very important to the team and they gave me a chance to assess my boys in a more competitive manner.”

“Those who were off late not getting enough game time had a chance to prove themselves and the invitational tournaments provided enabling environment for that purpose,” said Chitembwe.

“We are not worried about not lifting the Uhuru Cup as our main focus is the CAF Chanpions League and the Premier Soccer League although the matches were very important to us.

Chitembwe pointed out that he is trying to avoid player fatigue by resting some of his regulars at the same time giving others a chance.

“We are bound to play not less than 60 competitive games this year alone hence a cautious approach is needed. We do have depth that’s why we are tactically resting some of our games, reserving them for more competitive matches in the PSL and CAF,” he said.

Speaking at the same occasion, the coach said he is not reading much into Sunday’s clash despite completing a double over Tsholotsho last season.

“There is no small team in the league and there is need to guard against complacency. It is going to be a very tough match but we want to do our best and come up with a positive result,” said Chitembwe.

“I am happy with the overall team performance so far . We had the same number of points last year but we still went on to win the league so we are in the right track,” he added.

Edmore Sibanda who was the only casualty is available for selection on Sunday.
