The gods seem to continue smiling on WBC Silver Welter champion Charles Manyuchi who grabbed two awards last night at the Annual National Sports Awards 2016.

The boxer walked away with a floating trophy and a prize money of $350 for the Sportsman of the year and Sportsperson of the year awards.
Speaking to journalists after the event, Manyuchi said he deserved the awards.
“I feel very happy because I worked for it. I feel I deserved it and more. So 2017 I think Im going to collect awards again,” he said.
Addressing attendants during the awards ceremony, Sports and Recreation minister Makhosini Hlongwane expressed concern at the performance of Zimbabwean teams at the Rio Olympics 2016.
“As we gather tonight to celebrate the achievements of our sporting icons who raised our flag high across the globe, a few lessons have been learnt especially when we participated at the 2016 Rio Olympics and Paralympic games in August and September 2016.
“These lessons include that there is for us to invest in the development of our coaches, Administrators and other critical technical staff. It was so glaringly open that our coaches could not match the technical and tactical awareness of their peers resulting in subdued results,” he said.
Minister Hlongwane added,”In some cases our preparations were not a reflection of teams which were going to compete at the world’s highest stage in sport. This was evidenced by the too many false starts in some of the sporting disciplines thus losing much valuable time which could have been used to improve the technical and tactical awareness of the athletes.”
That said, Hlongwane noted that his ministry together with the Sports and Recreation Commission, Zimbabwe Olympic and Paralympic Committees will correct this mishap to improve future performances.
The Ministry of Sport and Recreation and SRC are set to commission researches and proposals meant to identify gaps in the sporting sector.
