Mamelodi Sundowns legend Eric Ramasike has heaped praise on the newly crowned Absa Premiership Footballer of the Season, Khama Billiat, who made a clean sweep at last night’s PSL Awards.
‘Gaucho’ was nominated alongside teammates Hlompho Kekana and Keagan Dolly in three categories and went home with all three gongs with a cool R450 000 in prize money following his impressive season with the newly crowned PSL champions.
The Zimbawean international was nominated for the Footballer of the Season, Players’ Player of the Season and Midfielder of the Season after a stellar 2015/16 campaign where he led The Brazilians to a record-breaking season.
Speaking to the Siya crew, ‘Tambai’ was full of praise for Billiat who he thinks was head and shoulders above his fellow teammates and nominees.
“I told you, you remember about Billiat? He took three. He deserves it, there’s nothing wrong. It’s just that he was too good for the other two guys (Kekana and Dolly). He was the favourite, ” Ramasike said.
The former Downs left footer was also impressed by how the team put in the hard work to ensure that they walked away with the biggest football prize in PSL football.
“Sundowns did well. Starting the league it was difficult and they worked themselves up. You know what Pitso worked so hard with these guys, ” he said to the Siya crew. “They turned that corner and you know winning the league is a marathon. To win the league is a big thing seriously and it needs a lot of hard work.
“Also considering yellow cards, red cards and players getting injured, you have to juggle your team as well so it’s not easy, ” he further said. “In between you are playing cup games, you are playing Champions League so it’s tough it’s not easy, “he concluded.
Amongst the winners on the night for the Chloorkop outfit were Denis Onyango who won the Goalkeeper of the Season award, Thabo Nthethe who grabbed two awards in Defender of the Season and Telkom Knockout Player of the Tournament and head coach Pitso Mosimane who was voted Coach of the Season.
