Tendai Ndoro struck twice as Orlando Pirates beat Jomo Cosmos 3-1 in the last-16 of the Nedbank Cup on Sunday afternoon. The in-form Zimbabwean was joined on the scoresheet by teammate Luvyo Memela, while Charlton Mashumba netted for Cosmos at Olen Park.
Pirates made the ideal start, as Ndoro nodded home a deep right-wing cross by Rooi Mahamutsa barely three minutes in. At the other end, Wiseman Maluleke tested Brighton Mhlongo with a shot on the angle, with the Bucs goalkeeper equal to the task.
Ezenkosi equalised in the 25th minute as Mashumba rattled the back of the net with a stunning strike from well outside the area. However, the Sea Robbers edged ahead on the stroke of half-time through a Memela header off a Mpho Makola set-piece. Ndoro completed his brace just after the interval, albeit from a seemingly offside position, as he turned in a left-wing cross by Thabo Rakhale.
Ayanda Gcaba came close to scoring for the Buccaneers in the 72nd minute when he met a good cross into the box, but his header went wide of the target. In the 80th minute Mashumba nearly pulled a goal back for Cosmos, but his shot from distance was well saved by the keeper.
In the end Cosmos could not break down the Pirates defence as they held on for a comfortable win.
