Highlanders Technical Team Confident Despite First Loss

Highlanders’ technical team headed by Zulu has vowed to come back to winning ways even after falling 0-1 to Harare City at Rufaro Stadium. Saturday was Highlanders’ fourth consecutive defeat in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League. It was Amini Soma-Phiri’s first game in charge after he replaced Bongani Mafu.

Bulawayo giants have been sucked into the relegation matrix as they sit just four points above the danger zone with 25 points.

Soma-Phiri took charge with veteran coach Cosmas “Tsano” Zulu as technical advisor also doubling as goalkeeper’s coach.

The two were brought in to try and arrest the slide down the table, but Bosso went on to lose their ninth match of the season on Saturday and have only won six times beating PSL newcomers Tsholotsho 1-0, Dongo Sawmill 1-0, Flame Lily 3-0, WhaWha 2-0.

The other two wins have been against Hwange (1-0) and Mafu’s biggest 5-1 win over How Mine.

While things have not looked good for Bosso, Zulu yesterday put up a brave face and claimed his team had played better than Harare City.

“We are happy with the response that we are getting from the boys at training. We actually outplayed Harare City. It was unfortunate we could not convert the chances that came our way. We are looking forward to positive results in our next game. It is encouraging but we have got a lot of things to correct. What do you expect from a new coach who has only been with the players for six days?” Zulu said.

Highlanders host Flame Lily at Barbourfields Stadium on Thursday.

Unlike Bosso, Chicken Inn are enjoying a good run and have maintained top place after another win at the weekend.
They have two testing fixtures against Triangle and Dynamos.

Among the tough remaining assignments is the match against FC Platinum before they play How Mine in a Bulawayo derby.
These are the games that are likely to decide the destiny for Chicken Inn.

FC Platinum displaced Dynamos from the second spot after beating them 3-1 at Mandava Stadium on Saturday and are now four pour points behind Chicken Inn with an away game against How Mine at Luveve tomorrow.
