CASTLE Lager Premier Soccer League log leaders Chicken Inn’s bid to have their skipper Danny “Deco” Phiri available for their next league match hit a brick wall after the football governing body yesterday availed evidence that the player accumulated three yellow cards.

Phiri is one of the two players suspended for this week’s round of matches together with WhaWha’s Blessing Chidzero.
Chicken Inn were contesting the suspension of their skipper as the race for the championship hots up.
According to statistics released by the PSL, Phiri was suspended for yellow cards he accumulated during the WhaWha match on April 6, against Dongo Sawmills on July 26 and Highlanders on August 30.
However, Chicken Inn had indicated that they would appeal his suspension as they were not sure where the other yellow cards other than the one from the Highlanders match came from.
Phiri was shown a red card in April against How Mine after having already picked a yellow the same month.
He was again shown a yellow in July and August leading to his suspension.
Coach Joey Antipas on Wednesday confirmed that they will be without the stalwart defensive linkman.
“We have confirmed the yellow cards with the PSL and everything is above board. He will not feature in our match against ZPC Kariba this weekend,” he said.
Antipas said they were of the opinion that the other yellow card would fall away considering that he served a suspension for the red card he was shown in the How Mine match.
“That is where the confusion was, but we have since spoken to the PSL to clarify the issue,” he said.
Phiri, who was recently in the Warriors’ side against Guinea, will be missed by Chicken Inn as they will also be without defender Lawrence Mhlanga and midfielder Tafadzwa Kutinyu.
Kutinyu and Mhlanga are with the Young Warriors in Congo Brazzaville for the Africa Games.
Thabani Goredema and Brian Juru would be fighting for the anchorman role.
Antipas said besides the three players that will not be available for the ZPC Kariba tie, they will also be without Devine Lunga who recently started training.
Lunga was injured in his debut appearance for the Young Warriors in June when he twisted his knee.
Antipas said they would have to fight hard against ZPC.
“Every match that we play now is tough. We have a real fight ahead of us and we have to get ourselves in order. We have to realise that ZPC Kariba are a strong team in the league and they will give us a tough match,” he said.
“Lunga started light training but he is still being monitored by the doctors. We will be without Lawrence and Kutinyu who are with the under-23 side and Deco who is suspended,” said Antipas.
