The Zimbabwe under-19 rugby team opened their qualification campaign for the 2015 Africa Cup Group 1A against Kenya with a 25-17 win at St Georges College in Harare.
Competition during the Africa Rugby Cup Group 1A was fierce as Namibia, Kenya and Uganda are all vying for qualification for next year’s Junior Rugby World Cup.
The Young Sables, made up of the cream of young Zimbabwean rugby talent, was not very convincing but in the end managed to grind a win against the bigger East Africans, thanks to first half tries.
The boys were motivated by the prospect of qualifying for next year’s U-20 World Rugby Cup after a missing out during the last three editions.
The four-nation qualifying competition got underway on Wednesday with defending champions Namibia beating Uganda 48-12, and will now meet Zimbabwe in their next match while Kenya will face their East African neighbours.
