Amid reports that Calisto Pasuwa will quit coaching the young warriors; the former dynamos coach has regrouped the squad for the African Under-23 Championship qualifiers final round against South Africa away on Saturday.
Callisto Pasuwa’s men conducted their first training session on Tuesday morning and they will leave the country for South Africa carrying a 1-1 first leg result and could be undone by the goal they afforded their opponents in the reverse fixture played in Harare two weeks ago.
The winner of this regional showdown secures a ticket to the eight-team African U-23 Championship to be staged in Senegal in December. The tournament will determine Africa’s representatives at the Olympic Games in Rio next year.
The Zimbabwe Under-23 team coach Calisto Pasuwa is looking forward to the presence of Kuda Mahachi, Walter Musona and Knox Mutizwa to provide the goal threat in Saturday’s clash against South Africa.
From the group which began training on Tuesday morning, the South Africa-based duo of Kuda Mahachi and Thomas Chideu were absent.
Mamelodi Sundowns are yet to clear Mahachi for the match while Chideu of Ajax Cape Town is said to have surrendered his passport for the processing of his work permit. Pasuwa is still crossing his fingers for the availability of the two.
The Young Warriors might not find it easy to escape this time around should they put up another nervy display in front the home crowd and Pasuwa can look to Mahachi, Musona, and Mutizwa to sharpen things a little in the final third.
